Ilya V. Buynevich

Ilya V. Buynevich is a geologist with research interests in event sedimentology, process geomorphology, and animal-landscape interaction (zoogeomorphology). He uses a combination of quantitative mineralogical, multi-dating, and geophysical techniques (focus: georadar) to reconstruct landscape evolution, with applications to a suite of geoengineering, geoforensic, and geoarchaeological problems. Over the past 25 years, Ilya has conducted research along the US Atlantic Coast, as well as in the Bahamas, Brazil, Kuwait, Turkey, Israel, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and Ukraine. He began his academic studies in a marine geology program in Ukraine in 1991, earning a BS and a PhD in geology from Boston University. Following post-doctoral and scientific staff positions at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, Ilya joined the faculty at Temple University and is teaching a course in process geomorphology for Penn’s Master of Science in Applied Geosciences program.
