Tuition and Fees

Your tuition at the University of Pennsylvania is calculated at a per course unit (c.u.) rate* based on the program you choose and the number of course units for which you register unless otherwise indicated. All tuition and fee charges are subject to the approval of the Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania and may change without notice.

Tuition for College of Liberal and Professional Studies (LPS) courses taken by International Guest students are billed at the LPS undergraduate tuition rate. Please see the rates listed in the table below. LPS courses end with a section code between 601 and 606 in the fall and spring. A full listing for each semester can be found in the course guide.

International Guest students in the College of Liberal and Professional Studies who are taking courses outside of LPS (i.e., in other schools of the University such as the College of Arts and Sciences, the Wharton School, the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and Penn Nursing) are charged the tuition of that school.

Students who enroll in a full course load (4 c.u.) outside of the College of Liberal and Professional Studies will be charged the flat undergraduate rate (please note these rates are for the full academic year) for tuition and fees. Students enrolling in classes offered at other schools of the University should coordinate closely with their academic advisors to fully understand the tuition implications. For complete course taking policies please see the International Guest Student Handbook (PDF).

All tuition and fee charges are subject to the approval of the Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania and may change.

*Academic credit is defined by the University of Pennsylvania as a course unit (c.u.). A course unit (c.u.) is a general measure of academic work over a period of time, typically a term (semester or summer). A c.u. (or a fraction of a c.u.) represents different types of academic work across different types of academic programs and is the basic unit of progress toward a degree. One c.u. is usually converted to a four-semester-hour course.
