Susan Spielberger

Susan Spielberger has over 40 years of experience in laboratory research and environmental protection positions. Her environmental experience spans consulting, academia, state government, and the USEPA.  Susan recently retired from EPA’s Mid-Atlantic regional office after 26 years and has worked in the Superfund, Brownfields, Air, Water, Sustainability, Geographic, And Cross Media Programs. Susan managed the Brownfields, Waste Minimization, and Pollution Prevention Branch at EPA, where she oversaw grants to local governments, coalitions, states, quasi-governmental, and nonprofit organizations for assessment, clean up, and eventual revitalization of Brownfield sites and sustainability projects. She previously managed the Air Quality Planning and Implementation Branch responsible for rulemaking actions, including designations, redesignations, attainment demonstrations, and State Implementation Plans (SIPs). Her interest and experience in risk assessment stem from her cross programmatic, Superfund, Brownfields, and surface water toxics projects, as well as her academic experience teaching classes in Risk Assessment and Environmental Science. Susan is a lecturer teaching Risk Assessment: Science and Policy Challenges.
