Lecturer in Classical Studies
I graduated from the Penn Classical Studies PhD program in spring 2024. Originally from Berkeley, California, I first learned Latin at Berkeley High School before majoring in geography and classical languages at U.C. Berkeley. I taught Latin in Oakland for a year before coming to Penn in 2018.
Research Interests:
The primary focus of my scholarship is poetics, and I am especially interested in the poetry of Republican and Augustan Rome. My dissertation, “Horatian Ecopoetics,” examines Horace’s poetic representation of the position of the human in relation to the nonhuman. The project developed from a longstanding interest in geography at the intersection of ecology and cultural landscape studies. I have developed additional research interests in Pliny the Elder, Lucretius, and ancient astronomical texts.
In my spare time, I enjoy playing racquet sports, guitar, and chess.
