Lecturer, Master of Environmental Studies

Leonard Shaw teaches Fundamentals of Data in the Master of Environmental Studies program at the University of Pennsylvania. He is a senior software engineer at American Water, specializing in data engineering, DevOps, and software architecture for Enterprise Geographic Information Systems. He previously taught Geographic Information Systems in the Department of Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering at Drexel University.

Leonard earned a Bachelor of Science in geophysical sciences from the University of Chicago and a Master of Science in Applied Geosciences from the University of Pennsylvania. He has presented at multiple ESRI conferences on his innovative use of graph theory to address water utility challenges, including isolation tracing and meter route optimization.

Leonard is passionate about implementing rigorous and well-designed data science models to solve problems in environmental studies and civil engineering. He is committed to helping students build strong foundations in algorithms and data structures so they can develop solutions that can adapt to the growing complexity of environmental data problems.
