Lilian Vaughn is a Senior Affiliate of Fox Leadership International (FLI) at the University of Pennsylvania. Hailing from the Kilimanjaro region of Tanzania in East Africa, Lilian is fluent in English and Swahili and can understand the indigenous languages of the Pare and Chaga tribes of northern Tanzania. Lilian earned a BA in English from the University of Dodoma in 2011, where she had the honor of serving as the class representative for all English majors in the college. After earning her teaching certificate from Tumaini University Makumira, Lilian went on to teach English and Swahili at Mbwawa Lutheran Secondary School in the coastal region of Bagamoyo, one of the poorest regions in the country. At Mbwawa, Lilian raised Tsh 11.5 million (USD 4,900.00) to found and direct the Champions Talent & Sports Program, which provides enrichment activities and developmental opportunities for struggling students. Lilian also served as the religion coordinator for the Lutheran students at the school's local chapter of the UKWATA organization (the Christian Student Fellowship of Tanzania). Lilian came to the United States in 2015 and now lives with her husband and two children in Northeast Philadelphia.
