In Penn’s Master of Philosophy in Liberal Arts, you select the courses most relevant to your interests and passions. Ideal for students who have already completed a master’s degree in the liberal arts or adjacent field and are available on a full- or part-time basis, the Master of Philosophy in Liberal Arts can serve as an important step in future PhD studies or as a way to deepen engagement with the topics that challenge and excite you. This program allows you to:

  • Earn an additional graduate degree in just 6 courses: 5 courses and an independent study dedicated to completing your thesis
  • Select an advisory committee of two members from Penn’s acclaimed faculty who help establish guidelines for your work
  • Demonstrate the quality of your research and writing skills to employers, PhD programs, and peers through your thesis project
