Course Description
This course has been designed to address the needs of incoming graduate students, help them adjust to the demands of a graduate program, and further prepare their skill set for the successful completion of degree requirements and subsequent employment.  Course Objectives: 
1) Review fundamental concepts regarding research design and the scientific method
2) Use scientific databases and cheminformatics tools to complete assigned work
3) Gain expertise in ethical conduct in research, including using human subjects 4) Develop professional skills including resume preparation, writing cover letters, writing statement of purpose, interview skills, and networking etiquette 5) Improve scientific writing and communication skills 6) Overview of proposal preparation and technical writing 7) Gain familiarity with the research areas and expertise offered by faculty members in the Department of Chemistry and off-campus collaborators
